Talk by Ms.Kathleen Goebel
Pakistan Embassy, Berlin organized a talk on “Pakistan: A Cultural Delight – a philosophical confluence of Iqbal, Goethe and Eastern Traditions by Ms. Kathleen Goebel, a German scholar on Eastern thoughts and author and translator of books on Eastern Culture & traditions under its Lecture Series Programme. Ms. Goebel, in her talk, highlighted the shrine culture and its impact on the people with reference to the role played by saints and Sufis of Subcontinent in spreading the message of Islam. She emphasized that the message of peace existed underneath of all the religion and said that so-called. Islamic terrorism was per say a contradiction in terms as there could either be religion or terrorism. She said that Allama Mohammad Iqbal was influenced by the German value system as well the work of German scholar and poet, Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, which was ultimately reflected in his thoughts and poetry. Ambassador Syed Hasan Javed, in his concluding remarks, said that the recent wave of extremism could not withstand the cultural heritage of Pakistan and would soon die out. He said that Pakistan stood with the free world during the cold war era and it paid a heavy price for the peace, democracy and freedom of the people of many countries of the world. It’s time the free world support Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and extremism, sprang out of the strategy adopted to counter former Soviet Union’s offensives in Afghanistan, he added.Here are a few glimpses of the event:
