Dialogue titled “Polio legacy and transition"
Ambassador of Pakistan His Excellency Mr. Jauhar Saleem was invited as panelist for a policy dialogue titled “Polio legacy and transition, hosted by The Graduate Institute Geneva in coordination with Global Health Centre, World Health Summit and Berlin Medical Society on 5 June 2016. Other panelists included Mr. Thomas Silberhorn, Parliamentary State Secretary, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Ambassador of Afghanistan Mr. Hamid Sidig, Mr. Tobias Bergner, senior official from Federal Foreign Office and Programme Officer, German Council of Foreign Relations (DGAP). The Ambassador explained the security challenges faced by the campaign in Pakistan. He underscored the importance attached by Pakistan to polio eradication in the country and noted that the drop in polio cases from 304 in 2014 to 11 in 2016 was an ample proof of the success of the government’s efforts. Mr. Thomas Silberhorn underscored the importance attached by Germany to international efforts for polio eradication with particular reference to success of the campaign in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
