CM (GB)Mr. Hafeezur Rehman Visited ITB Berlin
A delegation of the government of Gilgit Baltistan, headed by Chief Minister Hafiz-ur-Rehman, is participating in the 50th International Tourism Trade Fair (ITB) Berlin, from 7th to 13th March 2016. ITB is the world’s largest travel trade fair which provides a unique opportunity to look behind the curtain of the global tourism industry. It welcomes around 10,000 exhibitors from more than 180 countries around the world. The opening ceremony of Pakistan Pavilion was held at ITB on 9th March, with the Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan and Ambassador Jauhar Saleem in attendance. Pakistan Pavilion constructed on the model of historical Khaplu Fort and Palace drew the attention of large crowds. Colourful posters and videos on tourism attractions of Pakistan and dry fruits from Northern areas also remained centre of attraction of the visitors throughout the day. Pakistan delegation also comprised private tour operators who introduced tourism packages at the Pavilion. The Chief Minister visited other pavilions and interacted with tourism representatives from other countries. The ITB is a story of success. Launched in 1966 with participation of only five countries, it has become a global event today. We have been participating in ITB since 1968 and Pakistan Pavilion has become a permanent feature of the Fair over the past four decades. Last year, 23,000 convention visitors, 50,000 private visitors and 115,000 trade visitors visited the Fair, with estimated sales around Euro 6.7 billion.
